Today, we turn the internet on your face. It’s avoiding important things that gets us into messy situation. Sometimes, we have to pull up that tie (or pull down that skirt) and get to work. And if that means never ever ever missing a call from anyone, so be it. Side note: This might be a good time to add some of the annoying telemarketers to the blacklist. Ok, back to work. Why all this? Well, first, because the whole premise sounds interesting. Second, you might be in a line of work where picking up your phone can actually be a matter of life or death for someone (talking about a doctor or a nurse here, not your stockbroker). Ok, now that we’re all on the same page, let’s get started.
1. Never Put Your Phone In Silent Mode
Such a rookie mistake. There’s no place for the silent mode when you’re going hardcore. While you’re at it, make sure the ringer and notification volume is turned up all the way.
2. Disco Flash
Flash Blink is an app that fires up your phone’s LED Flash (sorry about that Moto E users) in all sorts of rhythm. It is super bright and pulsates in milliseconds. If you’re in the same room as your phone, there’s no way you can miss it. If your phone has RGB LED flash, the app will make use of the colors as well. If you’re wearing khakis or trousers, the flash will spread outwards from your clothes. Talk about seeking attention. If you’re epileptic, stay away from this app or turn down the Flash Counts because it can get to your head pretty fast. You can also have the flashes on repeat or enable them for SMS or any kind of third party app notifications.
3. Notifications For Calls Everywhere
You know why you miss most of your calls? Because your phone is in the other room or a while different floor. Ah, first world problems. As long as your phone is connected to some sort of internet, there are ways to blast off notifications to every device possible.
A. Pushbullet
I’ve written about Pushbullet in detail before. It’s an app that pushes content – text, files, clipboard, maps and even notifications from one device to another. So install the Android app, activate Notification Mirroring inside the app, install the Chrome extension or the app on your PC and you’re ready to go. Now when you get a call, Pushbullet will instantly notify you about it on your screen. So you’ve got about 60 seconds to run around the house to find your phone. What if you miss this notification? Don’t worry, there will be another notification about the missed call.
B. IFTTT
IFTTT’s new Android app lets you do all sorts of crazy stuff with location and phone calls. That’s good, because crazy is what we need. Here are a couple of recipes you should active. You can send yourself an email for missed calls, add missed calls to Google Calendar so you can get to it later, add your missed calls to Evernote, and a lot more.
Plus, you can assign a different treatment for VIPs – for your bosses at work and home. If you have Philips Hue lights, you can basically turn your house into a fire station when there’s a missed call with this recipe.
C. IFTTT and Pushbullet
IFTTT on Android helps you automate a lot of tasks. But it also plays nice with notifications. You can integrate IFTTT with Pushbullet and come up with your own recipes.
4. Take Your Phone Everywhere
You can’t really miss a call if you always have your phone with you. What about the loo? Just take your phone instead of your tablet/Kindle. Oh, don’t be coy, we all know you Reddit in the loo.
5. Repeated Notifications
Ok, so you missed a call. Not a good move but it’s in the past now. If you’re not on your PC, you’re not going to know about it until you pick up the phone again. Repeating Notifications is a simple app that that allows you to repeat notifications for calls, SMS and specific apps. The app will keep buzzing you until you take action. Now, even if you missed the call, this app will make sure you feel guilty about it at a set interval of time.
