All I need to do is play a song of my choice, and its dynamic algorithms will take care of the rest. While I love YouTube’s vast library of music and videos, there is one thing that I miss terribly is Equalizer Support. YouTube is considered one of the de facto video services of the world, yet it doesn’t allow to customize the audio output as per our preferences. Bummer. Well, we beg to differ. A couple of Firefox and Chrome extensions let you boost the audio quality by adding equalizer support. And the best thing is, if you know your way around graphic equalizers, they are easy to handle.

1. Equalizer for YouTube (Chrome and Firefox)

The first on our list is the aptly named Equalizer for YouTube. This extension modulates the sound of YouTube videos and even works on videos embedded on websites and blogs. Supported in many browsers, the extension bundles about a dozen presets. So, if you’re someone who is looking to modify the sound without making a ton of effort, this is a must-have tool for you. After you install it, a small equalizer icon will show up under the video title. Simply click on it, and you’ll see all the presets. All you have to do is pick one from the list to feel the subtle change in the music output. You don’t have to do anything else, just click on Play and enjoy. When it comes to EQ control, Equalizer for YouTube is describable as basic at its best. It doesn’t have any band control nor does it allow you to save any custom settings. Plus, it’s a tad difficult to read the preset titles in the Dark mode. Sadly, in cases of embedded videos, you won’t find the option to switch to the other modes. You’d have to open a YouTube video to make the settings. Also, if you are into instrumentals, you should certainly give the Game of Thrones theme by 2CELLOS a go. If the audiophile in you is looking for an extension with band equalizer, we have another extension for you. Get Equalizer for YouTube for Chrome Get Equalizer for YouTube for Firefox

2. Professional Equalizer (Chrome)

If you wish to get a 10-band equalizer, Professional Equalizer is the one for you. This extension looks polished and lets you customize the output as per your liking. The good thing is it also works well on the web players of Spotify and Google Music, apart from YouTube. Moreover, there’s a simple On/Off button to well, turn the equalizer off. If you’re a bass head, you can start by raising the sliders on the left and lowering the sliders on the right by just a little. Remember, that a slight tweak here and gentle drag there can help you enhance the audio by several folds. Apart from the bands, there’s a dozen of EQ presets that you can try. My only gripe is that the ugly green background of the presets menu. Not only is it very distracting but it also makes it difficult to read the names. To use this extension, open a website (YouTube or Spotify) of your choice, and click on the Capture this tab button. That will activate the tool on the current tab. Now, drag the sliders as per the song’s type. Yes, you can thank me later. Get Professional Equalizer

3. Audio Equalizer (Firefox)

Audio Equalizer follows the same path as the Professional Equalizer and bundles a 10-band EQ. It also packs a number of presets to make your work easier. The bands work like just other settings, you just have to find the right combination for you. The remarkable thing about it is that you can define your own presets and save it for your later references. To do so, click on the first drop-down menu and select Save after making the changes. This tool can easily save a couple of presets. Whenever you have to store a new one, click on Save as. Audio Equalizer has a couple of other options like Mono and Snap. Though the changes take place in real time, there’s also a dedicated refresh button which reloads the current page. This one comes in handy if someday things get stuck in between. So, the next time you listen to Burak Yeter’s Tuesday, make sure to thumb up the bass a little. Get Audio Equalizer

4. Audio Equalizer and Amplifier (Firefox)

Another simple yet functional extension is Audio Equalizer and Amplifier by Lunu. By packing usual bells and whistles such as a 10-band EQ and pre-defined presets, the extension keeps it straightforward. After installing it to the status bar, and you have to click on it select different profiles and experience the difference in the sound output. What separates it from the above extensions is its profiles. You can customize them and save them with different names to suit your many moods. Just modify the settings and tap on the Add a new profile button. Get Audio Equalizer and Amplifier
