webcam and a microphone for easy internet video chats . However, resolution of these cameras range from 1.3 to 2 MP on an average and do not deliver a clear quality even if you are browsing on a faster connection. Most of the smartphones too have a front facing camera to directly start a video conference on mobile , but they are very blurry because of low resolution of the front camera. Today I will show you how to use your Android’s back camera, that’s rich in megapixels, as a webcam for your computer and use it to transmit personal video feeds to your computer over Wi-Fi in high quality.
Using IP Webcam on Skype
Step 1: Download and install IP Webcam on your Android phone and make sure that both computer and Android are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. At the same time, install IP Webcam Adapter on the connected computer. This adapter will be used to detect the Android phone as a webcam. Step 2: Run the app on Android and configure the resolution along with quality. Please select decent quality if you are using Wi-Fi connection for internet surfing as well. If you want added security to your webcam while connecting in a public network, you can use a login password. Step 3: Having done all that, scroll down to the bottom of the app and tap on the option Start server. Step 4: Open your web browser on computer and type in the address shown in the camera mode. If everything went fine, you will see the IP Camera page on your browser. Open the link Use browser built-in viewer (not supported by some browsers) and check if you are getting the input from the phone camera. Step 5: After successful connection, open the IP Webcam Adapter you installed on your computer and type in http://:/videofeedand click on the Autodetect button. If you applied a username and password, provide them as well. The tool will communicate with the Android app and set the rest of the parameters automatically. That’s all, you can now use the webcam on any online and desktop application. Just select MJPEG Camera as an input source.
Conclusion
IP Webcam makes it extremely easy for me to use my Android’s high-definition camera as webcam. As long as I kept the streaming quality at optimal levels, I got a decent frame rate without any breaks. The only problem I faced was in placing the phone on the table in landscape mode. Any suggestions?
