Apart from Huawei, Coolpad had earlier launched its flagship device — the Cool 1 — in India, which also comes packed with a dual camera setup, at an event in late December last year. Since these are the latest dual camera sporting devices in the sub-Rs. 15000 category, we felt the need to compare what these two pack in order to form a clearer picture for you guys before you spend your bucks on any one of them. While, both the devices come with the 5.5″ Full HD display and run on Android 6 Marshmallow-based user interface, they do have some differences — especially when you consider their value for money.

Snapdragon v/s Kirin

Coolpad’s Cool 1 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 652 SoC, which runs on the A72 cortex and is quicker as compared to Huawei Honor 6X’s Kirin 655 which runs on the A53 cortex. While the Snapdragon is more apt for loading javascript quicker, the Kirin is better for longer duration usage such as while gaming —  the former heats up quicker given its 28nm tech whereas the latter has been built on the new 14nm tech and can withstand longer duration of usage without heating up. The Kirin SoC seems more power hungry too with its 2.1GHz clocking speed when compared to 1.8GHz available on the Snapdragon.

Dual-Camera Setup

Huawei’s Honor 6X comes with a 12MP and 2MP Sony IMX386 sensors that complete its dual camera setup which, on paper, doesn’t feel the same as the dual 13MP Sony BSI sensors of the Coolpad Cool 1. The Bokeh effect on the Cool1 is awe-inspiring, the sample images shared by Huawei didn’t look as great. The front snapper on both the devices gets an 8MP sensor.

Memory and Pricing

While the Coolpad Cool 1 was priced at Rs. 13,999 for 32GB storage alongwith 4GB RAM, Honor 6X comes in two variants of 32GB storage alongwith 3GB RAM and 64GB storage alongwith 4GB RAM, priced at Rs. 12,999 and Rs. 15,999 respectively. Huawei seems to be charging a premium to provide consumers with the 4GB option and a camera that doesn’t feel as great as its competition.

Wi-Fi Repeater Tech but Less Juice

Honor 6X comes with a Wi-Fi repeater, which means that your device can pick signals from a nearby Wi-Fi modem and then relay them to four additional devices — acting like a modem itself. The downside is that Huawei has packed the device with 3340mAh battery, which doesn’t seem equipped to handle such heavy operations for long durations. The Cool 1, on the other hand, comes with a 4000mAh battery, which packs ample juice to last for hours. Both the smartphone manufacturers are still relatively new to the Indian market and will have to line up their brand with more devices in the competitive sub-Rs. 15000 category, which is being dominated by the likes of Xiaomi these days.
