Hence, it’s only natural that our phones gradually become hoarders of all things — important or unnecessary. In such times, file and storage manager apps for Android rise to the occasion to clear the phone storage and save us from the jeopardy better known as the ‘Not-enough-internal-storage’ warning. However, in this age of abundance, it’s difficult to call the bad ones out among the plethora of storage manager apps. Thankfully, this scenario changes with Files Go, the new app from Google, which not only manages your files and docs like a pro but also focuses on how to free up space on your phone. So, without further ado, let’s jump right in and explore this uber cool app.

Files Go: A Brief

As mentioned earlier, Files Go is Google’s attempt at building a file manager app. It sports a multitude of handy features — from freeing up memory to transferring files. Since it’s an in-house Google app, you can be assured of no intrusive ads that notorious hide around the corners of file manager apps (remember Solid Explorer? Shudder shudder!). What’s interesting is that this whole package is available in less than 10MB. The only downside of Files Go is that it’s only available for a few select users. However, do not let that deter you from managing your Android’s storage more smoothly. The good people at Android Police have uploaded the APK file in APK Mirror and is available to download.

Features of Files Go

The best part of this app is that all of its actions are available in the form of cards just like Google Now. All you have to do is tap on a card and the results would appear right in front of your eyes within a jiffy.

1. Share Files

Sharing files with nearby devices is one of the major highlights of Files Go. Similar to Shareit or Xender, this app lets you share files with a nearby device with the help of Wi-Fi. If it’s your first time using this app, it’ll ask you for a name. Once you put it, tap on Send and find the targeted device. Note that the other device should also have the app installed in order to receive the file. After that, the file would be transferred in no time depending on its size. In case you’re the receiver, the files can be found under Files > Received files.

2. Find Documents with Ease

Separate folders for images, documents, WhatsApp audio files, and screenshots are beautifully categorized in this app.

3. Uninstalling Dormant Apps

Remember Google Assistant and its awesome way of handling things? You can also expect a set of similar actions with Files Go. From time to time, it’ll scan your phone and let you know about all the apps that you haven’t been using in the recent past. Along with the name of apps and the last-used timestamps, Files Go also showcases the amount of free space in your phone that can be raked up. What’s great about this feature is that you don’t have to manually go through your app drawer and uninstall apps. I personally think that this is a great time saver.

4. Remove Duplicate Images and Files

I have this habit of capturing shots in the burst mode. While they serve the immediate purpose of saving backup files, the unused shots almost always end up just eating space.

5. Clear App Cache

If you find out that one of your apps has slowed down drastically or is not loading data as expected, you know where to go. All you have to do is select all the apps where you have been facing this issue and clear the cache data from Files Go. However, the same task can be carried out from App Settings menu but I bet it’s a way more time-consuming method.

6. Delete WhatsApp Images

Having WhatsApp on your phone comes along with a regular drive to delete unwanted images, videos, and audio files. Yes, it’s true that there are many WhatsApp helper apps out there. However, won’t it be simpler if you had that solution under one roof?

Mischief Managed?

This new app from Google is a frills-free file and storage manager for Android that is easy to handle, thanks to its simple interface. So, if your phone is struggling with storage management issues, Files Go is the app to download. Since the app is unreleased, you may find a couple of bugs. However, hopefully, it’ll be updated to perfection with time. After all, it’s Google we’re talking about! The above article may contain affiliate links which help support Guiding Tech.
