However, as they say, “Photography is one art. Photo editing is another”. While not many of us would have the talent for photography, learning how to edit a photograph isn’t so hard. A little adjustment here and a few correct strokes there and you’d be surprised at the outcome. Photo editing doesn’t always mean Photoshop. It’s 2017 and, thankfully, we have numerous photo editing apps on Google Play Store. However, it gets confusing when it comes to choosing one out of these ‘numerous’ apps. Well, we’ve done the hard work and handpicked 10 Android apps for photo editing, released in 2017, which might just be what you were looking in the crowded Play Store. Let’s check them out.

1. Portra

If you have used Prisma, I bet you’ll come to love Portra. Portra is a free and simple photo-editing app, which has an incredible spread of watercolor shades, that will surely raise the standards of your portraits. One of the best photo editing apps that I’ve used in recent times, Portra gives your portraits the impression of a canvas art when the right shade is applied. What’s more? You can also customize the amount of color or the boundary of the image. Apart from that, it lets you share the photo directly via Facebook and Instagram.

2. Storyboard by Google

Storyboard is a relatively new app from none other than Google. It’s a fairly simple app, which transforms your videos into lovely comic strips. What’s interesting about this app is that it’s touted to produce around 1.6 trillion comic combinations. Super easy to use, this app has about six distinct styles that you can try just by swiping down. Needless to say, sharing these comics is as easy as pie. Storyboard is a no-frills app and doesn’t have any elaborate settings. If turning a video into a catchy comic strip catches your fancy, this is your go-to app.

3. Fabby — Photo Editor, Selfie Art Camera

Launched in February 2017, Fabby boasts of a Play Store rating of 4.7. Sporting a vast array of styles and effects and a dozen backgrounds, this Android app can turn even the most mundane picture into an attractive one. You can have your pick from dancing pandas to superhero backgrounds or turn your adorable buddy into a cute little unicorn. Fabby churns out amazing pictures and what’s best about this is that you can also apply the bokeh effect on your pictures.

4. Selfissimo!

If you love clicking selfies, I bet the Selfissimo app will be your new best friend. Made by Google, this app uses an experimental research technology to click black-and-white pictures when you’re posing and makes them into an amazing photo sheet. What’s great about this photo app is that it also offers compliments while the photo shoot stays in progress. All you need to do is tap the Start button and start posing. A second tap on the screen is all it takes to stop the photo shoot and, once done, you can save the photo sheet or share it across Whatsapp or any of the social media platforms.

5. Teleport – Photo Editor

If you’re in the same club as I am where changing your hair color just for a picture seems to be pushing it to an extreme level, we are here to save you both the time and the embarrassment. The Teleport app for Android lets you switch your hair color in a second — from rich burgundy to a hideous shade of green or hot pink. All you need to do is click a photo, pick a mock-up and hit Save. Apart from the above, you can also choose your colors and create a collage as well. The good news is that Teleport also sports an arsenal of backgrounds. Enjoy!

6. Pixomatic Photo Editor

The Pixomatic Photo editor for Android is developed particularly for those pictures that need a new background. With this app, you can add some new elements to the foreground or remove some unneeded elements from the picture as well. This Android application has an easy-to-use interface and will walk you through a short tutorial telling you how to use it.

7. FaceApp

FaceApp was in the news for two separate reasons in 2017. While one news was related to the ethnicity filters, the other claimed it to be the most popular apps of 2017. As mentioned earlier, it lets you add a variety of effects to your face — you can add a smile, make yourself look younger or older or even alter your gender. Though all the effects do not result in a great picture, the outcomes are usually decent.

8. Collage Maker – Photo Editor

Released in the latter half of 2016, Collage Maker – as the name suggests – is a simple app for making collages. Rated 4.7 on Google Play Store, this Android app has a lot of customization tricks up its sleeves. Not only can you choose a cool background, you can also place stickers and add text on your collages. If you ask me, this is my go-to app when it comes to making collages on Android.

9. Canva

Canva for Android is a fairly new app, which lets you make a variety of social media-ready images and pictures in a jiffy. Not a photo-editing app in the strictest sense, however, the ease of making a variety of templates made us include this Android app on this list. Canva has a large number of templates and all you need to do is upload your picture and it will be ready with tags and elements in a minute. It’s as simple as counting 1-2-3.

10. LIKE – Magic Special Effect Video Editor

Last but not the least, we have the LIKE app. Not strictly a photo editor, it’s gold for you if you love re-creating short video clips with music and dramatic video overlays. Picked up for Editor’s Choice on Google Play Store, this nifty app features a number of funny overlays. All you have to do is shoot a short video, choose from the diverse range of overlays – fire, stars, laser eyes, Kamehameha or Mickey Mouse hands – and add them to your video, save it and you’re done. Simple! You can also share your videos and follow a few others. While both the app functions and interface are great, the only issue that I faced was the annoying notifications.
