As we always like to say, there’s more to a phone than specs. Unless you dive deep into the camera app and its related settings, you are missing out on plenty of hidden features. Ever since we got our hands on the Galaxy S10 Lite, we have tested it extensively and have compiled the best camera tips and tricks for you. Let’s get started.
1. Get the Most out of the Macro Mode (and SSOIS)
A dedicated macro lens means that you will be able to capture minute details of your subjects, howsoever small they are. However, the dedicated Macro mode is nowhere to be found in the ribbon. Yeah, bummer. Like the Night Mode, this too is hidden under the More button. So if you want to shoot a couple of macros, tap on the More button and pick Macro from the list. Does the SSOIS mode sound too good to be true? Well, it actually is as good as it sounds. Just enable it through the ribbon above, and you will see the results soon.
2. Turn on the 48MP Mode
The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is the first phone in the S-series to sport a 48-megapixel camera, and hence it only makes sense that you make full use of it. But as luck would have it, it’s not enabled by default, and the option is a tad hidden away. But worry not, it’s not that difficult to fetch it. Simply tap on the Aspect Ratio icon at the top (denoted by 3:4) and pick 3:4H from the list. Now, all you have to do is aim the camera and snap.
3. Enable Motion Photos
I love motion photos, and it’s a great feature to have if you have little kids or pets at home. This nifty mode captures the moments leading to a photo and converts it into a nice little video. For instance, if you have aimed the camera at your kitten, it will start recording a few seconds before you hit the shutter button. And the best part is that you have both the photo and the video with you. Cool, right? To enable it, tap on the icon with the little play button at the top, and that’s about it. From now on, your phone will have a small clip to go with each photo. And it doesn’t end there. You can also capture still frame from the resulting video. On your phone’s gallery, tap on the Play Motion Photo tab > Edit. You’ll see the entire roll of the video. Now, adjust it to the position of your choice and tap on the Photo icon. Yep, as simple as that.
4. Create GIFs
This is the age of GIFs. With social media being a central part of our lives, you can never have enough GIFs. But with the Galaxy S0 Lite, you can also create GIFs from your own photos. And the best part is that you do not need the help of any external app for that. Simply, take a burst of photos, and your phone will automatically convert it into a GIF. Interesting, I would say. However, you’d need to enable it first. To do so, head over to Settings > ‘Hold Shutter button to’ and select the Create GIF option. The only thing you have is to make sure is to change the aspect ratio while taking the photos. The GIF mode doesn’t work on the 48-megapixel mode.
5. Change Camera Options in Tray
Sure, we love the multiple camera modes that the Galaxy S0 Lite comes with. But not each one of them is our favorite, right? In my case, I rarely use the Live Focus Video mode. Instead, I love to use the Macro mode and the Food mode. So, if you want to up your camera experience, you must group your favorite camera modes. And the good news is that it’s quite easy to do so. To do so, open the camera app and tap on More, as shown in the screenshot below. Next, tap on the little pencil icon to enter the Edit mode. Now, drag and drop your favorite modes to the ribbon below. Shift the lesser-used modes to the tray above.
6. Shot Suggestions
Not sure of your picture frames? Why don’t you let your phone help you? Yep, you read that right. The Galaxy S10 Lite comes with an option called Shot Suggestions that tells you the correct frame for each of your photos. That will save you from crooked angles and unsymmetric photos and the phone gets it right most of the time. To enable it, go over to the camera settings and toggle the switch for Shot suggestions. Once done, you will see a line and a white blob on your screen. And you’ll need to line up your frame to land the perfect shot.
7. Remove FishEye in Ultrawide Correction
You might already know that the ultrawide cameras tend to translate the fish-eye effect. And it’s more seen in portrait photos. Well, the Galaxy S10 Lite gives you a nifty option to have it removed. Once enabled, it straightens out the curved line, giving a more symmetric look to the photo in question. To activate it, head over to the camera settings and tap on Save options and toggle the switch for Ultra wide Lens correction. Cool Tip: The HDR option for videos lets you improve the looks of the videos. YOu will find the settings under Settings > HDR (Rich tone).
8. Save images in HEIF
High Efficiency Image File Format or HEIF is a potentially game-changing image format. This new image format is designed to save you storage space. And in this age, when taking photos with our phones is second nature to us, these types of formats are a blessing. The Galaxy S10 Lite also lets you save your photos in the HEIF format. However, it’s not enabled by default. You’ll have to switch it on manually via Save options > HEIF Pictures. Do note that while it’s a great improvement in terms of storage space, it might not work well with all apps, especially with some third-party image editing apps. Thankfully, it works with apps like Snapseed, and at the same time, you won’t have any issues in backing up HEIF files to Google Photos.
Capture Great Photos
Apart from the above, the Galaxy S10 Lite bundles a few cool features like AR Emojis and Scene Optimizer, which brings the power of AI to the table.
